Here is a preview of our CPL Air Law (A) course from the courses home page.
Reducing the cost of aviation training
Like our ATPL online courses, our new CPL online courses have all been professionally developed to maximise learning outcomes, while reducing the cost of training. We feel passionately that flight theory training shouldn't need to cost a small fortune. That's why we have launched - what we believe, to be the most cost effective, comprehensive, up to date and content targeted aviation courses in New Zealand today.
Many pilots choose to self study their PPL, CPL, IR and ATPL subjects, rather than paying high ground course fees at flight training organisations. At ATPLOnline, we provide you with the very best professional online aviation courses - fully supported via our Learner Help Desk, where you can get in touch with our course developers (we are pilots too) if you need any course assistance. View our CPL courses now.
All our online CPL courses have been developed by Boeing 737 pilots, who were also New Zealand flight instructors. We completed our PPL and CPL training in New Zealand, so understand the challenges and rewards of learning to fly in the New Zealand aviation jurisdiction.
All our online CPL courses incorporate practical real life examples from our experience flying; piston, turboprop and jet aircraft commercially in New Zealand and internationally. It makes sense to learn your CPL subjects from actual working commercial pilots who can impart real life flying experiences into the courses. This makes our content unique. We believe we provide the best, most current and comprehensive CPL courses available today in New Zealand.
We have a genuine desire to pass this knowledge onto you.
Instant course updates
Every day we are calibrating, improving and editing our online aviation content. That's what we do!
When we push these updates out - they are instant. You get the benefit immediately without any further cost to you.
Our courses are all 'living documents'. Also called 'evergreen' or 'dynamic content', this means our aviation content is continually improved and updated. This is something that paper books simply cannot do. That's one reason why they can get out of date fast and are often costly to maintain and republish. That is why their republishing cycles are much longer.
Our dynamic content ensures you are always studying the very latest and most accurate New Zealand aviation course content. How do we do this? During 2020, in association with our IT partners, we built a large IT system that tracks, collates and links all our vast content, questions and media together. This ensures that nothing is missed, and allows on time comprehensive course updating across all our courses.
FAQ'S - Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
Will you be releasing all New Zealand CPL courses online?
Yes. We are progressively rolling these out from late 2020.
Are all of your CPL courses self study?
Yes, however we are more of a hybrid theory course provider. While our courses are self study, we provide a dynamic Learner Help Desk (LHD) where you can post questions to us, interact with other students and search past questions and responses from our theory course developers. Our LHD is used a lot by our students - which means there is a lot of incredibly useful information already available.
What is the cost of the CPL courses?
All our CPL courses can be accessed for a low single recurring monthly subscription fee. See the course catalog for details. We have been delivering our courses for several years based on the subscription model. Feedback from our students has been great. Maximum flexibility and cost effective. Cancel anytime. There is no doubt this is one of the most cost effective CPL study options available in New Zealand. View our CPL courses now.
Do you keep your courses current and up to date?
Yes we do. Our PPL, CPL, IR and ATPL courses are kept current with the very latest information. We take great pride in ensuring you are studying the most up to date course content.
We know that some flight training organisations and book authors do not regularly update their aviation course content when NZCAA make syllabus updates. Keep in mind too, that a simple reprint and a new date stamp on a paper based book doesn't necessarily mean it's up to date. This can make a huge difference to the quality of the courses delivered. The risk is that you may be asked questions in your external exam on topics that were not covered in the courses. This can cost you valuable marks and leave significant gaps in your knowledge.
Our courses will ensure you are studying ALL the relevant information to meet the New Zealand CAA syllabus requirements.
Delivering online courses allows us to make regular, timely updates, to both strengthen our courses, correct any editorial errors (we are human too!) and most importantly, to push updates on time when NZCAA make syllabus and other legislative updates - which happens fairly regularly.
All our courses are kept current with the very latest information.
Do I need to study PPL or CPL theory courses at an aero club or flying school, and do I need to physically be in New Zealand?
No. There is NO requirement under New Zealand CAA rules to complete your aviation theory training at an aero club or flying school. You receive your aviation theory examination credits by passing NZCAA approved ASPEQ external examinations. You can study for these external examinations however you like - including self-study, anywhere in the world - and many pilots do. You can also sit these New Zealand aviation examinations in many places around the world as well. NZCAA recognise that you may not be physically in New Zealand when you study and sit your theory courses or exams.
In fact, our students on our site come from more than 22 countries around the world!
This process of self study is common and a well used path around the world in many aviation jurisdictions. Many private and commercial pilots choose to self study their theory subjects - at their own pace - saving thousands and thousands of dollars in the process.
An important distinction is that your practical flight training in the aircraft must be completed through an NZCAA approved aero club or flying school.
Do I need any other textbooks to complete your courses?
No. All our courses are designed to be fully self contained - meaning you DO NOT need any other text books or external courses to successfully pass your external aviation exams. Our students consistently score over 90% in the external examinations.
I have already started studying my CPL courses at an aero club or flying school. Can I still study your courses?
Yes! We highly recommend you use our courses - even if you are studying through an aero club or flying school. This will ensure you are studying the most up to date, cost effective, comprehensive and content targeted aviation course content available in New Zealand. Another key benefit is that you will get access to our own extensive question banks - which often exceed 300 questions per course!
Can I access your question banks?
Yes. By subscribing to our aviation courses you will get full access to thousands of content targeted New Zealand aviation theory questions.
How long will it take me to complete the CPL courses?
Depends on your study schedule. The CPL courses are more in-depth than the PPL courses. You are required to know more information - in a lot more depth. We take you through our courses progressively, ensuring you have assimilated the knowledge before moving on to the next module.
Some student pilots can complete all CPL courses in 2 months full time study. Others choose a more leisurely part time approach and will complete them within 3-4 months. Take as little or as much time as you like.
I'm still at high school. Can I start your online CPL theory courses while I'm still at school?
Absolutely! In fact, we think it is the perfect time to start your PPL and CPL theory studies. Take some time over your school holidays during the year, or the Christmas break and get stuck in. Get ahead before you complete school. We are here to support you - so please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Can I use the student loan scheme to pay for your online CPL courses?
No. We strongly recommend you save any student loan funding you may have for the practical flight training components at your flying school. The cost of hiring training aircraft can be expensive, but your theory courses do NOT need to be.
So, what about online IFR courses - will you be releasing them too?
Yes. Our course developers are currently working hard to launch all the IR courses as well soon.
Do you also deliver ATPL online courses?
Yes - in fact our dedicated team has been delivering our highly regarded New Zealand ATPL online courses for over 10 years! Ask around. Many pilots who have entered the commercial pilot market over the past decade have either heard of us or taken our courses.
We even licence our aviation courses into many flight training organisations in New Zealand and for use around the world.
